Inside The Box

Okay, here's what you'll find in the box :-

1. The Card

The FastTrak100 is a PCI card (what else?). As you can see, the IDE connectors have been placed at the top of the card. This should appeal to most users as that position allows IDE cables to be easily attached to the connectors. Other than that, there is nothing much to talk about it.

2. Setup Disks

This is pretty standard. The use of diskettes is great for those installing Windows 2000/XP as the two OS will only read drivers from diskettes during the installation process. However, it would be even better if Promise could also include a CD-ROM with drivers and support programs, just in case the diskettes get damaged. Nevertheless, the diskettes should be good enough for all intent and purposes.

3. IDE cables

Also included are two 80-conductor IDE cables. It's very thoughtful of them to bundle these cables. Saves the user a lot of hassle buying the cables himself. :D

4. User's Manual

The user's manual is quite complete and features a lot of step-by-step instructions on how to setup up a RAID array. I find the manual a great help which would appeal to most users. Thumbs up here for good documentation, which was presented very professionally too.

The installation of the card was extremely easy and Windows 2000 didn't have any problem detecting the card and installing the drivers from the setup disks.
