| Warning
Before we begin, a few points must be taken into
consideration here :-
- We take NO responsibility for whatever happens to you or
your computer system as a result of trying out whatever is
described in this
article. In other words, if you screw up, it's
your fault and not ours. :p
- I'm writing this article based on the assumption that you're
already running an AMD system which is running stable in
Windows9x, etc. I assume that all required drivers and system
software have been installed. I won't go into installation of
CPU, motherboard or cooler onto the CPU. I also assume that you know how to take out and reinstall the CPU
properly or have someone who know how to do it for
you.
- Good cooling is a must. Don't skimp on cooling for your CPU.
A cool CPU is a longer lasting CPU. Why? Overclocking results
in a greater amount of heat to be dissipated, thus the higher the chance you may fry your CPU.
- Quality parts and components. Don't expect all motherboards
and other PC peripherals to be very overclockable. Most of the time, overclocking the CPU results in
overclocking the system bus, memory bus, PCI bus etc.
Essentially overclocking your entire system. Quality
components will be able to better handle the extra stresses
placed on them through overclocking. Generic and cheap
components are made to run within specs and NOT out of specs.
- Have a proper PSU in your computer, meaning one that you are
sure will supply ample power to your computer. A 300W PSU is
the absolute minimum I would recommend for anyone, although 250W
might be sufficient.
- Ground yourself before touching any of your PC components.
Static electricity is bad for your PC and can short out your
precious motherboard or hard disk or whatever. Grounding
yourself could be done by buying a grounding wrist strap or
just by touching the metal part of your computer case before
handling any of your PC components.
- Take your time. Don't rush.
Enough of the boring stuff. On with the meat of the article -
overclocking the bejeezus out of this little CPU!
