| Conclusion
The Psion 56K Travel Modem is a modem which you can get NOW and use
with ANY
Pocket PC or any device that has an infrared port. The only apparent disadvantage might
be the batteries but the device seems power-efficient enough and could last quite
a while ("a while" being about an hour).
Price-wise, it (the non-GSM version)
costs about the same price as the 56K Xircom CompactFlash modem (RM580
/ USD 153). I haven't
been able to check prices on the Pretec one though.
On the box Psion also says that the modem is supported by Palm and Handspring
devices;and of course Psion devices. So, with just one modem, you can use it for most of the popular PDAs out there.
Very ideal for PDA-divided families ;).
I have yet to try and see if you can
use it on standard Windows yet. Just need to find a notebook and try it out
since my external IR port just fried on me.
