| Pocket PC Performance
Comparison
Unlike
Palms, Pocket PCs are more than just overgrown PIMs. Designed right from the
start as miniature versions of desktop computers, they can play
audio and video in addition to performing a myriad of other
functions; and yet still fit a pocket. As such, processing power
is of great importance in Pocket PCs in contrast to Palms.
That's
why you won't see the same Motorola Dragonball processor that's so
favoured by Palm PDAs powering the Pocket PCs. While a 16MHz or
20MHz Dragonball may be more than enough to run Palm OS and its
applications at a nice clip, it is not powerful enough to support
the multimedia capabilities inherent in every Pocket PCs.
In
addition, WinCE and its software are comparatively bigger than Palm
OS and its software. Though that's an
unavoidable result of WinCE's greater complexity, it also means
that a more powerful processor is needed to run WinCE and WinCE
software. So
what are the Pocket PCs powered by?
