PDA Panache Trio-1 Triple Function Stylus

The Stylus Tip

Since this stylus's main function is to serve as an alternative stylus for PDAs, let's examine its stylus tip.

The first thing you'll notice about the stylus tip is that it is a bright, striking, fluorescent orange in colour. Now, you may think it's ugly but there's a good reason why they made it so.

Remember, because this is a triple function stylus, you wouldn't want to accidentally engage either the ball-point pen tip or the mechanically pencil tip and then use it on your touch screen, right? Thus, with the knowledge that the stylus tip is orange coloured, you'll not make the mistake of using the wrong tip on your touch screen. Trust me, the striking orange colour of the tip saved me a few times from seriously scratching the Jornada screen!

You will also be interested to know that the stylus tip is very smooth. It's even smoother than the original Jornada stylus! Its writing performance was great. Writing on my Jornada is now a real pleasure. The Jornada stylus produced a feeling of writing on paper texture whenever I 'wrote' on the screen. This didn't gave me an easy feeling as it felt like I was scratching the screen although some, including a HP Jornada promoter, claimed that the stylus would not scratch the screen. Contrary to their claims, my Jornada has already shown some scratches. Sigh...

Oh and best of all, the stylus tip is well protected inside the stylus when not in use! So, there's little risk of damaging the stylus tip during transportation.

The Other Tips

There is really not much to talk about the black ball-point pen tip. So far, the ink is still flowing and it writes quite smoothly. It's replaceable when it runs out of ink. The replacement tip can be purchased directly from PDA Panache. I believe there are a few colours to choose from.

As for the 0.5mm Mechanical Pencil tip, there's one major flaw. The only way I can put in the lead is by holding the push button down to keep the tip in the 'open position' and then feed the pencil lead into the tip! That means there can be only one lead in the pencil at any time. Otherwise, it functions just like any other mechanical pencils.

Extras

There's one little extra thing that comes with the stylus - an eraser! It was a little surprising to find the little eraser inside the head of the stylus. Well, it's better than nothing, right?

Editor's Comments

I like the bright orange stylus tip. Makes the tip selection fool-proof. Looks great anyway. :)
