The NVIDIA GeForce2 Go &
Dell Inspiron Review

Benchmarking The GeForce2 Go!

I really, really wanted to compare the results with another notebook. But the only other laptop I could find in my office was a Dell Latitude C600 with an Intel Pentium III-566, 512MB RAM, ATI Mobility M-4 chipset. Let's just say my friend didn't want to sit through all the 3DMark test, especially when they're all running at 1~3fps!

So, I decided to use my desktop as a reference system. It's an Intel Pentium III-866 with 256MB of RAM and a MSI Geforce2 MX graphics card.

All tests were done using 24-bit Z-Buffer, Compressed Textures, Hardware T&L, No Anti-Aliasing with a Double Framebuffer. I really have no experience in this so if anyone has a better suggestion, do let me know.

The driver which I've got for the laptop is supposed to be the latest Detonator 3 driver. So is the one for the desktop. The laptop was powered by an AC source. Therefore, it was running at 900MHz during the tests. Check out the scores :-

System

800x600x32 1024x768x32 Performance Difference

Inspiron 8000

2038 1667 76.41%

Desktop System

2675 2174 Baseline (100.00%)

As I'm not one who compare benchmark scores all the time, I'm not sure exactly how much performance we're talking about here. But there's one thing I do know for sure - I'm the only one with a laptop that can play Emperor at 1024x768x32 with a very sweet framerate! ;)
