Microsoft Sidewinder Strategic Commander

Conclusion

After using the SC very intensively along with my ForceFeedback 2 and GameVoice (reviews soon!), I've really grown to like it. Primarily I've been playing Mechwarrior 4 with it and basically controlling all the necessary functions through the SC, I now have very few reason to reach for the keyboard while playing and I love it ;)! Soon, I'm gonna go pick up Alice and I'll try to use the SC in a FPS game and see how well it holds out.

The most important question is of course, is this controller for you? Well, you can definitely live without it and just keep using your keyboard. But you must be aware of a few things, first of all the game which you're going to play must have adequate keyboard commands!

And once you get used to the SC, you're gonna be fumbling when you lose it so don't use it to train for any cyber cafe tournaments unless they allow you to bring your 'friend' along. If you feel you're a hardcore gamer, then by all means, grab it! If not, you can definitely live without it.

BTW, I have a special request for my readers. When you see the SC being sold, just go ahead and ask the shop keeper "What the heck is that for?" and e-mail me their answers. :)
