Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical

by Chai

Unlike IntelliMouse Explorer, the Optical is slightly smaller, which is good for someone with a smaller palm. The Optical is a little too small for my hand but I got used to it eventually. Because of its mild textured surface, it might get a little hot.

For old Explorer users, you might find that the Explorer's colors will fade or come off completely after some time. This is because it's painted with glossy colour which makes it look cool when it's new but is not really permanent. This is not the case for the Optical. Because the plastic itself is beige in colour, the colour won't fade like the Explorer.

Because of its design, it is both left- and right-hand compatible. Instead of two thumb buttons, they split them into left and right side buttons. So you will be able to make use of all the buttons using your five fingers.

It comes with a USB to PS/2 converter. So, if your PC does not have a USB port, you can always use the bundled converter. Do not attempt to try the converter with other USB devices because it will not work or might even damage both the device and the port.
