| What About The Others?
Luckily for users of non-Jornada Pocket PCs, Jimmy Software has
recently released their landscape utility for both Casio
Cassiopeia and Compaq iPAQ Pocket PCs. By extension, I believe
other Pocket PCs are also supported as long as they use the NEC's
Vr4121/2 or Intel's StrongARM processors.
Jimmy Software's landscape utility is a simple software that
finally allows Casio and Compaq users to quickly switch to
landscape mode. In fact, it is easier to use than HP's built-in
utility.
So, how well does it work?
Installation
Being a Pocket PC application, it takes very little space. The
installer for Casio Pocket PCs is less than 150KB in size. On
running the installer, it asks for the Casio Pocket PC model you
are using. There are only two choices, naturally - the E-115 (NEC
Vr4121 processor) and the E-125, EM-500 or EG-800 (NEC Vr4122
processor). Once you choose the Pocket PC model, the installer
will automatically install the utility into your Pocket PC.
I also chose not to install in the default directory but
the installer did not give me any choice in the installation
directory. I guess it installs directly to the Windows directory.
In any case, installation was simplicity in itself. Now came the
litmus test of trying it out.
Using The Utility
The utility is accessible by a shortcut in the Start Menu. On
clicking the shortcut, the following screen appears :-

To access the landscape mode, just select Landscape and
click on the Accept & Reset button. That will
immediately soft-reset your Pocket PC. And viola! Your Pocket PC
will now start up in landscape mode!
