The FlipOut PDA Case

This, my friends, is body armour for your PDA. This is the FlipOut PDA case by CyberPocket. It's a rather unique case and it offers a few unique features that will make you feel safer carrying your PDA around. And in a few minutes, I'll show you why this is definitely NOT for everyone. :)

This is how it looks like, opened. The pad on the right side of the picture is

where your PDA goes although it's a little hard to tell from the picture. It's a big plastic sleeve in which your PDA sits.

The body of the case is made out of waterproof nylon so if water does get on the case (as it will, especially when you're washing your hands), you just need to brush it off because the water won't seep into the fabric.

But that doesn't mean you can hose it down! It'll help protect your PDA from water but that won't make it a fish. This is great because some cases absorb water and either damage themselves internally or worse, allow the water to seep through the material and onto your PDA.

Here's how it looks with my E-125 Pocket PC inserted. It's still quite hard to tell but because the sleeve fully envelopes the PDA, you get free screen protection!

On the other hand, because the sleeve is slightly detached from the surface of the screen, you will have to press down a little harder to touch the screen. It was a bit unnatural and nerve racking at first but once you get used to it, it's okay.

Incidentally, because the sleeve is anchored at the top, taps near the top of the screen take a bit more effort if you have secured the sleeve too tightly and thus prevent it from stretching sufficiently. About 80% of the top portion is covered to ensure that your PDA doesn't slip out when you flip out.

This rules out the usage of any expansion device that extends out of the top of the PDA. Hmmm.... that would rule out wireless network cards which are often used in factories. I guess some changes need to be made for those who need such a capability. However, it is interesting to note that there was an older design for the holster which seems to have more space at the top.
