A Review?

Well... not really... This is an article about the Chaintech 60JV2 i815E motherboard with some pictures and commentary. Unfortunately, the board was dead on arrival. So, I could not run any tests and therefore, this is not a complete review. :(

Still, there are lots of things we can learn from the examination of this motherboard. Don't believe me? Well, read on and find out! :)

The 60JV2 At A Glance

Here's the entire board at a glance. As you can see, it has 1 AGP, 6 PCI slots. There's also an AMR slot. Chaintech provided three DIMM slots with the 60JV2, which is more than sufficient for expansion purposes. After all, the i815E chipset only supports 512MB of RAM.

Although it's a common practice to colour-code connectors, Chaintech went a step further and colour-coded each IDE port connector! This makes it fool-proof to identify which port is for primary controller and which is for the secondary controller.

What You Get

In the box, you should find the Chaintech i815E 60JV2 motherboard (naturally...) and a cable set. In addition, you should also find a CD containing the basic utilities and drivers you will need to run the motherboard. In addition, there's also a manual. While the manual look rather cheap, it's really quite good. Content, IMHO, is always more important than looks.

Chaintech was also nice enough to include a quick installation guide with the 60JV2. It provides information on the motherboard layout and all important jumpers at a glance. This is really helpful as thumbing through the manual isn't what anyone would like to do while installing the motherboard.
