CNetX Flash Format 1.20

Info

On running Flash Format, you will be shown the Info screen on the right.

Here, you can check out the actual model name and number (if your card is an OEM card repackaged under another name).

You can also check out the geometry of the card although the card doesn't really have read/write heads or platters like hard disks. It's just due to the way the card is formatted in order to comply with ATA specifications.

Of course, the Info screen also shows you a gauge of your flash memory card's capacity which is a lot like the standard Pocket PC's storage card properties page. Note that the data provided here is only accurate up to a single decimal point. The standard storage card properties page, on the other hand, is accurate up to two decimal points.

Integrity Check

The Info screen is also where you can run an integrity check of your flash memory card, just like Scandisk in WinOS. Just click on the Verify Status button...

Oops! What is this? An error message popped up. It appears that Flash Format needs exclusive access to the flash memory card in order to check for errors. Just like the disk utilities of WinOS.

So, for Flash Format to check and correct errors in your flash memory card, you will need to shut down any software that's accessing the card. That includes Microsoft Reader or Windows Media Player if you have MS Reader eBooks or MP3/WMA files in your flash memory card.

Applications that are not accessing any files on the flash memory card can still remain open because they will not affect Flash Format.

Oops!

I shut down all applications that were accessing the card and then clicked the Verify Status button again.

Flash Format ran for a second or so and then reported an error with the directory entry for Timeline.lit. To correct the error, just click Yes. Flash Format will then correct the error and leave any truncated cluster(s) as a file in the main directory of the flash memory card.

Error detected!

At last, Flash Format gave my CompactFlash card a clean bill of health with a simple Status : Ok.
