ABIT BE6-II

I have 2 questions:

1. I have BF6 mobo which is the same as BE6-II you reviewed but w/o the ATA66. Where is the 3rd thermistor? I know 1 measures CPU temp, the other measures via the cable but where is the third one? It's on the board somewhere I assume....

2. How do I get the heatsink off the northbridge? I can't pry those plastic tabs out. Is there an easy method you know of.

Thanks. great site!!! (Are you putting your old reviews and tweaks on line soon?)

Hello Tuan Pham,

The third temperature thermistor, which monitors the motherboard's temperature, is actually the Winbond hardware monitoring chip itself. According to ABIT, the processor temperature is obtained by sampling the d+ and d- pins of the processor itself for temperature data while the Winbond WB3782D monitors the ambient temperature around itself - that temperature is what is taken to be the motherboard temperature. Of course, the last thermistor supported is external thermistor which ABIT provides with the BF6.

This is the same for the BE6-II motherboard, in case the rest of you are wondering. :)

As for the heatsink, it's really quite easy to remove. I'll admit it's tough if you only have fingers to use. But if you have a pair of tweezers or pincers, use it to squeeze and then push out the plastic pins that hold the heatsink to the motherboard. You will find it very easy to remove the heatsink that way.

Hope that helps you some! :)
