Windows Explorer In Any Directory

Registry Fix Method

Here's how you can get the Windows Explorer to appear in any directory you want... instantly!

  1. Open up Notepad and type in the following text (as shown in the picture below) :-

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Command]
@="Explore from here"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Command\command]
@="explorer.exe /e,/root,%1"

  1. Save the file with the .reg extension, instead of the usual .txt extension. In this example, the file is saved as Explore.reg.

  2. Now, double-click the saved file. Again, we are using Explore.reg as an example.

  1. A pop-up message (shown below) will appear. Click on Yes to allow the contents of the Explore.reg file to be added to the registry.

  1. A confirmation pop-up screen will announce that the information in the Explore.reg file has been successfully entered into the registry. Just click OK to continue.

  1. Now, open up Windows Explorer.

  2. If you right-click on any directory, you will notice a Explore from here option.

  1. Clicking on that Explore from here option will bring up a new Windows Explorer displaying the contents of that folder.

  2. Here's what happened when I clicked on the Explore from here option with the Reviews directory selected :-

  1. Instantly, a new Explorer window opened up with the Reviews folder set as the root folder. From there on, I can navigate the Reviews folder and its subfolders in this new Explorer window although I can't go above the Reviews folder.

Notes

  • This Explore from here option will only allow you to navigate the folder you have chosen and its subdirectory.

  • However, you will not be able to navigate above the folder you have selected.

  • The Explore option that's available by default when you right-click on any directory will also allow you to open up a new Explorer window with focus on that directory. But navigation is not restricted to just the folder and its subfolders. You can go above the folder you have selected.
