ASUS
Ships the First Socket 370 DDR Motherboard - CUV266
Taipei, Taiwan, February 16, 2001 - ASUSTeK Computer
Inc. today announced the release of the ASUS CUV266 motherboard,
the latest standout in its long line of leading-edge technology
products. Combining the strengths of the Intel(r) Pentium(r) III
1GHz Coppermine processor on Socket 370 and the features of the
new VIA Apollo Pro266 chipset beefed up with Double Data
Rate (DDR) technology, the ASUS CUV266 motherboard delivers an
ideal platform that spells out power and
productivity.
Taking advantage of Apollo Pro266 chipset’s advanced V-Link
memory controller architecture, the ASUS CUV266 motherboard
supports up to 3GB high-speed DDR200/266 2.5V Synchronous Dynamic
Random Access Memory (SDRAM) at a peak bandwidth of 2.1 GB per
second. The ultra-fast 266MHz memory bus provides the necessary
bandwidth and performance to comply with the increasing demands of
Internet and 3D graphics applications.
The ASUS CUV266 motherboard adopts a newly designed clock
generator that allows a 1MHz step increment on the Front Side Bus
(FSB). This capability makes gradual over-clocking possible
through the BIOS software.
The ASUS CUV266 comes equipped with the Advanced Communications
Riser (ACR) interface that defines new standards for diverse and
scalable communications and audio subsystems. The ACR
Specification supports modem, audio, Local Area Network (LAN), and
Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technologies, and is backward
compatible with the Audio Modem Riser (AMR). The Accelerated
Graphics Port (AGP) 4X interface is also onboard to support today’s
most sophisticated graphics cards that display 3D graphic images
and streaming videos. Five standard PCI interfaces are also
available for future expansion.
Joining the E-century trend, the motherboard adds in the Smart
Card Reader connector. This feature affords users the convenience
of availing financial, healthcare, telephony, and traveling
services through a Smart Card Reader and easy-to-use user
interface software.
High quality 3D surround audio support comes through the
C-Media CMI8738 audio controller onboard. With this advanced audio
capability and good speakers, watching movies with total surround
sound and listening to the latest MP3s right from the PC become a
reality without the extra expense for a sound card.
The ASUS CUV266 motherboard integrates the 3Com(tm) EtherLink
10/100 LAN ASIC that features Remote System Alert, Network
KeepAlive support, and added enhancements to the Remote Wake Up
function. These solutions are compliant with key industry
standards such as PCI 2.2, Wired for Management, DMI 2.0, and ACPI,
and meet all requirements for Microsoft(r) PC ’99 certification.
For extra connectivity solution, the ASUS CUV266 motherboard
embeds two internal USB connectors with a convenient Hot-Plug
feature, in addition to the two external ports, to support a total
of six USB peripherals.
