Worth It?
As you can see, overclocking the E-125 brings about rather
significant improvements in performance, especially when
overclocked to 200MHz. Subjectively, applications load faster and
the E-125 is even more responsive when switching between multiple
tasks. IMHO, Microsoft Reader and video playback benefited most
from the increase in performance.
At 180MHz, the E-125 is about 20% faster than normal.
This may sound like a pittance but you will be surprised at how
much more responsive the 180MHz E-125 is, especially with a full
load of applications running. The most significant performance
boost, however, comes with the overclocking of the E-125's
processor to 200MHz! Now, although the NEC Vr4122 is only rated up
to a maximum clockspeed of 180MHz, most can actually be
overclocked to 200MHz. Often, no harm comes out of such a high
clockspeed. The increase in power consumption due to the higher
clockspeed isn't even significant enough to worry about. However,
in some cases, the Casio E-125 may run at 200MHz without crashing
but the IR port or the serial connector won't work properly. In
that case, the only recourse is to reduce the clockspeed to
180MHz. But if you can overclock the E-125 to 200MHz, expect it to
really fly! On the average, the 200MHz Casio E-125 is now 33%
faster!
Therefore, if you have to choose between the Compaq iPAQ and
the Casio E-125, the possibility of an overclocked E-125 will
definitely make it more attractive than it would normally appear.
Of course, the iPAQ can also be overclocked and the procedure is
so much easier. But now, there's finally a possibility of owning a
Casio E-125 that is about as fast as the Compaq iPAQ! Imagine -
the Casio's feature-rich and problem-free design and its fantastic
HAST touch screen with iPAQ-equivalent performance! For more

PC Performance Comparison!
Now, if you think overclocking the E-125 is something you want
to do, continue reading. But remember that we won't be held
responsible for any damage to your E-125 as a result of following
the steps outlined in this article.
