Computex 2000 Part 1

ASUS

The first booth I visited was the ASUS booth, because it's the first thing that caught my eye. Or rather, its giant GHz vehicle billboard below. ASUS must have spent a lot because they used up nine booth areas.

ASUS' booth (the first thing you'll see upon entering Hall 2)

You can also see the range of motherboards attached to that billboard. Those are the motherboards that ASUS are promoting as motherboards to complement the new GHz+ processors from Intel and AMD. Since there was nothing particularly exceptional there, I skipped them and moved right inside.

ElanVital Coolers

ElanVital coolers

Lo behold! I spot this table full of coolers by ElanVital, an ASUS subsidiary. Here's a closer look at the coolers :-

ElanVital coolers (close up)

In the front row are coolers for the various processors in the market. Behind them are more exotic coolers for hard disks and other components, I reckon. The coolers were solidly made out of metal. None of those cheap plastic coolers here. And two of the coolers sport really thin fins (not pins) However, the fans do look rather puny. I wonder how well they really work... :)

There was even a ducted cooler. It actually consists of a standard cooler with a cap and a duct. The cap covers the top of the cooler and allows a plastic duct to be fitted to one side. The duct feeds cooler air from outside the casing to the cooler, thereby improving cooling efficiency without resorting to more unorthodox methods.

The design looks pretty simple so I believe you can easily adapt your cooler to function in the same way. Granted, it may not look as neat as the ElanVital solution but it should work just as well.
