Let's Start Cracking!

Now, we begin building the PCMCIA to CF converter.

Before we can do anything, we must find two essential components - a CF female connector and a PCMCIA male connector. Finding these two components might not be easy. I have had to salvage some hardware to obtain them.

First, I opened a CF to PCMCIA converter. It has a PCMCIA female connector. Closing off some of the holes can turn it into a CF female connector. You can find or make this part from any defective PCMCIA and CF cards.

To turn the PCMCIA connector into a CF connector , all you need to do is close off the outer two rows of holes on each end. You can stuff in some toothpicks to avoid the male connector from interfacing with the wrong holes.

Next, I opened up an defective notebook to obtain a PCMCIA male connector. Note that I saw all these components for sale in a Shenzhen store. So, it's definitely possible for you to buy them somewhere.

This is a CF to PCMCIA converter :-

After salvaging it, I forgot to take some pictures of it.

Remember the two components you've prepared earlier? You can connect them using any cables. But I chose to use the circuit board on the CF to PCMCIA converter. If you look closely, they are actually quite similar. You can reuse most of the "traces".
