Building A Water Cooling System

To build a water cooling system yourself, you must read a lot of articles about water cooling before starting on your own. You will never want your processor to end up as a key chain.

Water block : Make sure you test the water block for leakage before installing it to your system. The side of the water block which makes contact with the processor must be completely flat. A water block must be made out of metal, but copper and aluminum are recommended because they are cheap and conduct heat very well. You can buy from a few sites, like www.overclockershideout.com, if you can't make one yourself. My water block is made out of steel, because it's free so I shouldn't complain.

Water pump : The water pump makes the water circulate in the water cooling system. There are basically two types of water pump, submersible and inline. I'm using the submersible type because it's easy to maintain and change the water. But you need to use a water tank so that the water can be pumped. I personally never use inline water pump before, some say inline is better because it does not produce heat like the submersible type does.

Radiator : It's important to have a radiator. Without it, the water temperature will constantly increase because there is nothing to cool the water. Get a big one if possible and install a few 12cm fans to chill it.

Water tank : It depends on whether you use a radiator or not. If you have a radiator, then you can use a much smaller sized water tank than the one I use. The larger tank you use, the less likely for the water to heat up. I still prefer to use a medium-sized water tank combine with a radiator to get optimum cooling performance.

My Water Cooling System

I have very limited budget, so buying a heatsink/fan and peltier is out of my reach. Building a water cooling system myself will be a little cheaper after looking for all the components required to build one.

Parts Price
Water pump RM 85 (USD 22.30)
Water block RM 0  (it's free :D)
