| Setting Up The Celemine 600 Adrian was kind enough to
give me the
ABIT BF6 board that he reviewed as well as the ABIT HotRod 66 IDE card. My last system was an AMD K6-200 system on an ASUS
TX97-E motherboard.
Yeah, it's that old. :D
Anyway, the installation process was
fairly simple. Well, at least physically, as I found out later. You see,
I forgot that the BF6's BIOS hadn't been updated yet and therefore could not support the multiplier of 9X!!! Having no other
Slot 1 or Socket 370 CPUs
myself, I hunted around my block for one. Luckily, a friend of mine had a Pentium
III 633EB, which could therefore work on the BF6. After using his CPU to boot the
system, I flashed the BIOS with the latest update (UH). I then reinstalled the
Celemine 600. Well, needless to say, it finally worked flawlessly.
So, a tip here to all inexperienced buyers of any
motherboard. Make sure you remember to ask the dealer if it can support the
CPU you intend to use it with, out of the box. Even for experienced buyers, it never hurts
to make sure of this. It might save you all the trouble I’ve gone
through… unless of course, you have tonnes of CPUs lying around your house. :)
Anyway, after some initial testings with SisSandra, it reports
that my Celeron's Stepping is cB0. Sigh. Anyway, I don't
think there's any cC0 ones here in Malaysia anyway, even my
brother's 633MHz one is cB0.
