32MB CompactFlash Card!       02:15 AM MYT     Adrian Wong

Looking for more information on CompactFlash cards? Ken Ng tried out the 32MB ACE CompactFlash card and here's his report on the memory card! Here's a snip of the review - "The first time I laid my eyes on the CF card, I thought, "Oh my God, look how small it is!" It's sometimes hard to imagine how up to 256 megabytes of information can be kept in such a small device which hardly weighs anything. Then again, it costs about 4 times more then a regular PC-133 SDRAM DIMM!"

What's In The Future?       11:15 AM IDT     Adrian Wong

What my telephone problem means is that I absolutely cannot access my mailbox so please don't send me any e-mails unless they are absolutely critical. And if you do send me e-mails, please remember that I won't be able to read them till I get my phone line.

In the meantime, I will be updating the site from a shared connection in a local cybercafe. Although expensive and inconvenient, it's better than nothing, I guess. So, what it means to you is that ARP is not dead. I may have disappeared for a while but I'm back now and ready to churn out more articles.

In fact, we have a couple of reviews on the burner. Do check back in a while. They will be up as soon as I finish editing them. Again, sorry for disappearing without a warning and thanks for your kind patience! :D

Here I Am Again!       10:50 AM IDT     Adrian Wong

Hello again, everyone! :)

So sorry for disappearing for so long! It's been over two weeks since I updated this site. What had happened to me?

Well, I arrived in India to find that my phone line had not been reconnected as I expected. I had disconnected it just before I left as I shifted to a different place. So, I spent the last two weeks chasing Karnataka Telecoms. Unfortunately, their big chief in Manipal - a Subdivisional Engineer N.V. Kini found it a great hobby to delay my line shifting application.

In fact, till today, I'm still without a phone line. And when should I expect it to be shifted to my new place? I quote the most honourable N.V. Kini - "If I say you wait 4 months, you wait 4 months!!!". In any case, I will be bugging the redoubtable N.V. Kini for as long as it takes him to release my line. I may even have to resort to writing to the Times of India although I doubt that will have any effect.

The Indian DoT (Department of Telecommunications) is the most inefficient and unfriendly arm of the government. And why not? It's a monopoly, period and their staff fancy themselves gods who control who gets access to a phone line and who doesn't. Of course, I speak only from my local experiences with their well trained and extremely courteous staff. Perhaps only in Manipal do they breed such unforgettable characters as Mr. N.V. Kini.

Lite-On CD-Rewriter Drive Review Up!      10:45 PM MYT     Adrian Wong

Here's our latest review! Ken Ng just finished up his definitive review of the Lite-On 12x10x32x CD-RW drive which features the groundbreaking BURN-Proof technology. With BURN-Proof, the Lite-On drive can boast of never suffering from the dreaded buffer under-run problem which has plagued CD burners for years now.

But is BURN-Proof really what they make it out to be? Are there any issues you should be aware of before buying such a drive? Ken Ng takes you through all these and more when he examines the first BURN-Proof CD-RW drive we ever tested. Check it out! :)

News From The Net

Rizenet posted their review of OCZ's MicroBGA PC150 SDRAM! Here's a clip - "This SDRAM has not yet been released, but should be available for order soon at a pretty low price (between 54-64 dollars when I asked). I tested it against my stick of Mushkin PC133 Rev2, and pushed both sticks over the 150MHz mark, at CAS2."

Extreme Overclocking posted a review on ThermalPhobia's Copper Shims. Shim quality is important if it is going to do its job effectively. A good shim will prevent your CPU core from being chipped or cracked when mounting a heatsink. A bad shim could easily kill your brand new $200 Athlon or Pentium. BTW, they are also giving away 5 ThermalPhobia Copper Shims!
